Joyride partners with Flare to improve micromobility safety

December 7, 2023

Micromobility software provider Joyride has partnered with Flare in a significant step to ensure rider safety.

With the rising popularity of micromobility, it's essential to develop fresh and innovative safety solutions. While micromobility rentals have gained popularity due to their affordability, convenience, and eco-friendliness, safety concerns persist as their popularity continues to grow.

In response to these concerns, Flare and Joyride have come together to create a safety-focused solution that benefits both drivers and riders. Their objective is to contribute to the prevention of road incidents involving vulnerable road users.

By using Flare's real-time incident avoidance network, Joyride's platform will offer an additional layer of protection. Joyride's community of micromobility operators will be able to add Flare as a feature to their app. There is no equipment needed for this upgrade, as it works in the background ofJoyride's app, making it effortless to use.

Flare's safety ecosystem connects millions of riders globally and alerts drivers when vulnerable road users such as riders of electric bikes and scooters are nearby. WithFlare's technology, drivers can gain better awareness of their surroundings, which could lead to a dramatic reduction in road accidents. According to WHO ‘More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.’ By linking micromobility users with drivers and combining incident avoidance capabilities, accidents like this can be prevented.

“For Joyride operators, this added boost for rider safety falls right in line with our mission to offer the safest, most reliable riding experience on the market,” said Vince Cifani, Joyride Founder and CEO. “It also bodes well for future city permit applications.Large micromobility operators are already using this technology, and it will soon become industry standard. Independent operators vying for permits will require this safety advantage in order to stay competitive.”

James Duffy, Co-founder and CCOof Flare, said, “We are thrilled to welcome the Joyride platform to FlareAware, alongside other global mobility operators in the network. Through this collaboration, we aim to create a safer and more connected mobility ecosystem, and pre-warn drivers when an e-scooter or e-bike is in a dangerous proximity.Joyride’s inclusion in the Flare Aware network marks another significant step towards our shared vision of a safer world, one journey at a time.”

Flare Aware and Joyride stand at the forefront of enhancing global micromobility safety. The combination of Flare's incident avoidance technology with Joyride's existing safety features will contribute to the development of a secure and sustainable micromobility ecosystem. This partnership represents a major step forward for micromobility, demonstrating the industry's commitment to safety and readiness to adopt innovative approaches.
